Dunbar GP presented with Royal National Lifeboat Institution award

Dunbar GP Tom Badger is presented with an inscribed vellum to mark 25 years of work with the Dunbar lifeboat crew.

He has only been to sea on a medical emergency once in his quarter century of service as honorary medical adviser.

Dr Badger has given regular medical check-ups to all the crew members in that time.

He received the vellum at a ceremony at the Rocks Hotel.

Dr Badger said he had greatly enjoyed his work with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution except on the sad occasions when he had to tell crew members they were no longer fit to go to sea.

David Johnston, chairman of the Dunbar branch, paid tribute to the hard working doctor saying the station was very pleased that he was planning to stay on as honorary medical adviser for a number of years yet.

He said: "Tom has been a great friend to this station and the many crew members who have volunteered here over the last 25 years."

Dr Badger's practice partner Dr Neil Black has joined the station team as deputy honorary medical adviser and is currently taking part in regular exercises with the town's two lifeboats.

"Last year at the RNLI's annual general meeting, Dr Black was presented with the institution's gold medal for his work.
