The coordinator of the successful Dunbar SciFest and a top young athlete have received accolades in recognition of their community service and achievements.

Dee Davidson, a marine biologist with 24 years experience, is this year’s recipient of the Community Council Award and teenager Robert Ferguson, who has won several high jump championships this year, was presented with the Bowe Cup.

They received their awards at a ceremony following the monthly meeting of Dunbar Community Council which took place in the Council Chamber at the Town House last week.

Dee is the co-chairman of the parent council of Dunbar Primary School - believed to be the largest primary school in the UK with more than 1,350 pupils and more than 70 volunteer parents acting as class representatives. She helps organise the varied activities of nine parent council sub-groups including trying to raise £15,000 for the school each year.

Robert won the 2012 Scottish indoor U-18s high jump championship and came second in this year’s Scottish senior high jump championship. He was the winner of the 2012 Scottish Schools’ boys’ high jump championship. He also scooped the top position in the 2012 Welsh junior international U-20s championship for Scotland and at the 2012 Celtic Games U-18s championship. He came first in both the Scottish U-18s high jump championship and Scottish U-20s high jump championship.
