A Dunbar woman has paid tribute to the “amazing generosity” of the local community in raising more than £2,000 to help the work of cancer care nurses.

Pauline Smith was astounded at the support she received at recent coffee afternoon which she organised to say a big thank you to Macmillan Cancer Support nurse Fiona Sneddon, who helped her mum Jane Ramsay cope with her battle against the disease.

Sadly, the beloved mum and grandmum died in February at the age of 60.

Pauline (37) said: “We could not have got through those last few weeks with mum without the care and support of Fiona. She chatted to my mum and made sure she was ok. She was always there for us and enabled my mum to be cared for at home which was where she wanted to be.”

Mrs Ramsay was born and bred in Dunbar, one of 11 children. She and her husband Bernie (61), who works at Spott farm, were well known in ceilidh dancing social circles in the Lothians and Borders.
