Apprentices from Torness Nuclear Power Station near Dunbar were transported back 70 years when their newly acquired engineering skills were put to the test on a Second World War submarine.

The team of seven joined 65 other EDF Energy recruits who are undergoing training by the company at the naval centre HMS Sultan at Gosport in Hampshire.

They spent time on HMS Alliance, which is sited at the Submarine Museum, producing maintenance schedules and instructions, and also health and safety regimes in the submarine.

The apprentices then presented their findings to managers from their base locations and also took them on guided tours of the Alliance.
