Dozens in East Lothian receive food parcels

East Lothian’s Foodbank has helped dozens of local families have a better Christmas this year by providing food parcels to support them over the festive period.

The referrals came in thick and fast in the days leading up to Christmas, with more than 50 families having received food parcels by December 20. Volunteers were hard-pressed to cope with the influx of food donations and make-up the food parcels ready to deliver to recipients.

Fiona O’Donnell MP, secretary of the Foodbank, said: “While it is terribly sad that so many people face food poverty at this time of year, it is a great feeling to know that we have managed to help families in really serious need this Christmas. This vital assistance would simply not have been possible without the amazing kindness and generosity of people in East Lothian.”
