Delivery times moved for Haddington store despite local concerns
HADDINGTON: Co-op, Hopetoun Drive, Haddington
The go-ahead has been given for deliveries of goods to the Co-op store in Hopetoun Drive, Haddington, an hour earlier in the morning despite residents’ concerns about traffic congestion and noise.
But the shop is now under council scrutiny after it was claimed there had been breaches of an existing planning condition, with lorries arriving at 3am and 4am.
When approval to extend the shop was given back in 1991, it was stipulated that no deliveries should be made to, and collections made from, the outlet between the hours of 10pm and 7pm. No delivery goods would be deposited on its forecourt and no delivery vehicles would be parked there with engines running.
The Co-operative Group wanted to change that to a 6am start, seven days a week, so newspapers and bakery products could be delivered.
During a site visit a week ago, residents claimed there had been breaches of planning permission, with lorries arriving at 3am and 4am, and councillors saw a lorry parked at the store with its engine running.
