Day centre clients in Ormiston are onto a Wiinner
Trendsetting pensioners in Ormiston have found a novel way to indulge their passion for bowls.
With a new games console at their fingertips, gone are the days of waiting for the greens to open or rolling out the carpet bowls.
The Wii Fit programme is just one of a range of new activities being offered to elderly clients at the Primrose Day Centre.
“Some of the clients really enjoy the Wii – we’ve not got them into the tennis yet, but they are certainly enjoying the bowling,” said centre co-ordinator Laurna Newlands.
When they’re not going exercising their muscles, the clients also enjoy exercising their minds with games such as Family Fortunes, Countdown and other quizzes on the Wii.
Laurna and her team are hoping to recruit more volunteers to assist with the new programme of activities, including card-making, jigsaws, dominoes, as well as the old favourite, bingo.
For volunteering details visit the centre at 2 Main Street, Ormiston or call 01875 615121.
