County police campaign to focus on drug crime

Towns and villages in the west of East Lothian are the focus for a new police crackdown on drug crime.

Operation Ergot aims to use information from local communities to identify those involved in the production and distribution of illegal substances across the Musselburgh, Prestonpans and Tranent areas.

Villages including Wallyford, Whitecraig, Port Seton, Ormiston and Macmerry will also be targeted.

As part of the operation, a number of searches have already been carried out by Lothian and Borders Police following intelligence that properties were being used to facilitate drug deals.
