County jobs blow in East Lothian

A devastating economic blow has been delivered to East Lothian as two companies closed down with the loss of around 100 jobs.

Printing and book binding business Montgomery Litho Limited in Haddington went into provisional liquidation and its base at the town’s Gateside Commerce Park closed with immediate effect.

Seventy-nine workers have been made redundant and a further nine are assisting with the closure of the site on a short-term basis.

There was little sign of life this week at the premises of Bankton Building Services in Tranent, which has ceased trading, with the loss of around 18 jobs.

Blair Nimmo and Tony Friar of KPMG were appointed joint provisional liquidators on Friday at the request of Montgomery Litho’s directors.
