Council takes delivery of electric van
East Lothian Council’s mailroom is the first business in Scotland to benefit from the use of the new Ford Connect electric van.
The new vehicle will make deliveries across the county more economical and environmentally friendly as the staff deliver mail to other council offices and schools across East Lothian.
The mailroom itself is also fully equipped for the new arrival, with the depot boasting a charge-in point for the van that provides a faster electrical recharge than the domestic supply.
As a result of this, the van can be fully recharged in approximately just eight hours. By choosing to now use an electric van, the council has a more sustainable mobility solution that will cut conventional fuel bills and help to lower overall running costs.
Its lithium-ion battery pack is charged with a standard power unit and the vehicle has a top speed of 75mph with a range of up to 80 miles
Councillor Barry Turner, Cabinet member for Environment, said: “I am delighted that we now have a Ford Connect Azure Dynamics electric van as a part of our fleet which will continue to provide our services but in a new sustainable and efficient way.”
