Council backs calls for dualling of A1 to border

East Lothian Council has called for the dualling of the A1 from Dunbar to the English border as a key part of its response to the Scottish Government’s national planning consultation.

Upgrading parts of the Edinburgh bypass to improve the county’s transport links with the rest of the country are also needed, members agreed at a full council meeting in Haddington on Tuesday.

The National Planning Framework, prepared by the Scottish Government as a blueprint for improving transport links among other developments acknowledges that cross-Border road and rail links are important for developing tourism and trade by bringing more parts of Scotland to within three hours travelling time of major English cities.
