Coop in Dunbar is East Lothian first

A community chicken coop has been created at Dunbar Grammar School to supply fresh eggs to local people in what is thought to be a first for East Lothian and the biggest in Scotland.

The first hens have now arrived as a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style competition involving pupils became reality.

The pupils aimed to come up with a project to reduce the town’s carbon footprint and Community Windpower gave funding for the coop.

Fourteen families have volunteered to look after the birds in exchange for fresh eggs.
