Compass pupils light up centre with song

Children from the Compass School in Haddington played a starring role in the Christmas lights’ switch-on ceremony at Ocean Terminal shopping centre in Leith.

Imogen Aitken, a P3 pupil, had the honour of switching on the festive illuminations along with singer Kitty Brucknell, last year’s X factor finalist, and actor Jack Shepherd, who plays David Platt in Coronation Street.

The youngster was thrilled to win a competition to switch on the lights and also got the chance to meet another celebrity, Santa Claus, who joined in the celebrations.

The award-winning Compass School choir sang carols and songs at the event. The children have won the primary schools’ choir trophy at the Edinburgh Festival or Music, Speech and Dance three times.
