Coastal project brings opportunities

Apprenticeships and volunteering opportunities have taken a big step forward in East Lothian as funding for a new project has been secured.

The council has been awarded almost £280,000 from the Coastal Communities Fund, part of the Big Lottery, to provide 12 apprenticeships for unemployed young people as well as providing volunteering experiences for young people through schools.

The two year project will involve improving and upgrading coastal paths and cycle routes and the apprentices will gain accredited qualifications as part of the project.

Walking and cycling is already very popular in East Lothian and it is hoped this additional improvement work will attract even more visitors to the county – providing an additional boost to the local economy.
