Prestonpans schoolboy Jack Fisher is among the winners of a national art competition organised by the Scottish Government to promote winter safety.

A pupil at Preston Lodge High School, Jack was delighted to have his design chosen from more than 700 entries from 26 schools for a place in the “Get ready for the year ahead” calendar.

On the back of recent winters, which have seen damaging storms, snow and freezing conditions, the calendar aims to encourage people up and down the country to think ahead and be better prepared for all kinds of emergencies.

It was Jack’s picture of someone being placed in the recovery position that impressed the judges.

It now represents December 2013 in the calendar, supported by Education Scotland, British Red Cross and Scottish Water, has been put together as part of the Scottish Goverment’s Ready for Winter? campaign.
