Queen Margaret University is hoping to make a significant contribution to the local economy following the opening of a Business Innovation Zone.

Scottish entrepreneur and QMU Chancellor Sir Tom Farmer launched the new initiative at the Craighall campus on Monday.

A major part of the new zone will be a Business Gateway office run by East Lothian Council - the first time in Scotland that a Business Gateway has been incorporated into a university campus.

Small businesses from across the Lothians will be able to access advice, support and training opportunities. Much of the focus will be in supporting small business start-ups and encouraging students and new graduates to develop as entrepreneurs.
