Board set to take tough action over licence renewals in East Lothian

A tough stance is to be taken against licence holders in East Lothian who have not renewed their annual licences.

Jim Goodfellow, board convener, hit a warning shot over the bow at a meeting yesterday (Thursday, September 27), saying they risked having their licences suspended.

He said with just three days to go before the cut-off time, 151 premises had still not renewed their licences. He stressed that the board was disappointed about this, adding: “The ramifications of this for the premises is that at the next licensing board we will be looking at reviewing any of those licences that have not been renewed and, if that is the case, they could end up having their licences suspended. We are definitely intending of taking a firm line on this.”

Licences should be renewed by Sunday.
