Bid for new Tranent taxi rank stalls

Calls for a new taxi rank in Winton Place, Tranent, have been rejected by councillors amid fears that it could be a nuisance to neighbouring residents and damaging to local businesses.

Concerns had also been voiced by M&F Funeral Services that the proposed stance - directly outside its premises - would interfere with the “dignified and respectful” transportation of bodies from its vehicles into the branch.

A request from East Lothian Taxi and Private Hire Association for the additional rank was considered by East Lothian Council licensing sub-committee last Thursday.

While councillors agreed that the location in Winton Place was not appropriate, they will now invite local taxi owners to come up with an alternative location.
