As surprise presents go, a beautiful baby boy must be hard to beat.

Little Luke Reid ensured this Christmas was the best ever for his parents Julie Knight and William Reid, from Prestonpans, when he was born in the early hours of December 25.

The first of this year’s Christmas babies to be delivered at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, Luke was welcomed into the world at 1.14am – weighing a healthy 8lbs.

Julie (22) was attending a routine check up at her surgery in Cockenzie on Christmas Eve when she was advised that her blood pressure was too high.

She was sent for closer monitoring at the hospital, where the team decided the safest option was to deliver the baby – the couple’s first child - by caesarian section.
