Being drawn to East Linton castle
Hailes Castle.
Visitors to ruined Hailes Castle, near East Linton, can now see what it would have looked like at the height of its power.
A colourful and detailed illustration showing a reconstruction of the fortress, which played host to Mary, Queen of Scots, has been installed at the site following talks with archaeologists and historians.
Steve Farrar, interpretation officer at Historic Scotland, said: “The new panels offer a surprising amount of detail. Artist Heath Gwynn has created a stunning illustration showing the castle as it may have looked when Mary Queen of Scots and the Earl of Bothwell left to be married in Edinburgh in 1567.”
