Banned drink driver jailed for 96 days

A motorist was caught drunk behind the wheel of a car only four months after being disqualified for a previous drink driving offence.

At Haddington Sheriff Court last week, James Abba was jailed for 96 days and banned from driving for a further five years.

The court heard the father-of-two already had two drink driving convictions and was more than twice the legal limit when stopped by police in Wallyford just after Christmas.

Abba (32), 2 Pattinson Street, Edinburgh, first appeared on December 31 when his case was continued for the preparation of a social work report.

He admitted driving with excess alcohol in Salters Road, Wallyford, on December 29, when he was found to have 80 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millitres of breath – the limit being 35 microgrammes.

He also admitted two separate charges of driving a car while disqualified and driving without insurance.
