ASBO threat to primary school pupils in Prestonpans
Primary school pupils in Prestonpans are among a number of children being threatened with ASBOs in a bid to curb escalating youth crime.
A group of children aged between 12 and 16 have been under investigation in connection with a spate of antisocial behaviour and vandalism in the High Street area of the town.
Several youngsters have already been charged, while others - including some P7 pupils - have been asked to sign Actual Behaviour Agreements.
The agreement requires them to avoid further trouble or risk being placed on an ASBO.
The new “zero tolerance” approach by police and council officers was outlined to the February meeting of Prestonpans Community Council.
Community Constable Fiona Gilchrist said action was being taken in response to a growing number of complaints from residents in the High Street, Redburn Road, Burnside, North Grange Avenue and South Grange Avenue - the majority relating to the same group of youths.
