Art collection seeks home in East Lothian

A “unique collection” of Scottish art and pottery could find a new home in East Lothian.

The search for a suitable venue has been launched by Japanese businessman Kozo Hoshino, who is chairman of the Victor Murphy Memorial Trust which promotes the arts and crafts movement in Scotland.

Edinburgh man Victor Murphy, who served in the RAF, started his connection with Japan during the Korean War in the 1950s during which he developed a love of art.

He knew Mr Hoshino, who came to Edinburgh as a student more than 40 years ago. The trust was set up in Mr Murphy’s honour and Mr Hoshino founded the Morita Museum of Fine Art in Edinburgh.

Councillor John McMillan is excited at the prospect of the huge collection coming to East Lothian as it would attract visitors and worldwide interest.
