Anger at Belhaven housing appeal

Councillors are poised to fight a plan to build 90 new houses in a field between West Barns and Dunbar.

Hallam Land Management has lodged an appeal with the Scottish Government Appeals Directorate because East Lothian Council did not make a decision, within the six month deadline, on its application in principle for the new development behind Beveridge Row and Edinburgh Road at Belhaven.

The move has outraged local residents who have raised concerns about traffic, drainage, waste treatment and disposal, and flooding.

Councillor Michael Veitch, Dunbar and East Linton, has responded to the appeals directorate, saying: “I believe there are a number of reasons why this application should be refused - not least because the development is outside the area designated for housing in our local development plan.”
