All aboard the train to Haddington

Waiting for Video...

The community is on track to be polled on a plan to re-open the Haddington rail line to serve the town’s growing population.

RAGES - the Rail Action Group, East of Scotland - is set to gauge the public’s views about re-instating the link to Longniddry which is a stop on the North Berwick to Edinburgh route.

The rail campaigners are signalling East Lothian Council to undertake a technical feasibility study into the Haddington project - 60 years after the line was closed to passenger traffic.

They are also continuing their fight to get the station at East Linton re-opened together with a better local service between Edinburgh, Dunbar and Berwick.

Tom Thorburn, RAGES chairman, stressed that access to the rail network was needed as hundreds of new houses were earmarked for Haddington.
