Added fibre for East Lothian internet users
A FURTHER 800 homes and businesses in Cockenzie, Prestonpans and Tranent are being offered access to high-speed fibre broadband.
The expansion has been announced by BT as part of its £2.5billion commercial roll-out of the service.
It will take the total number of premises with access to fibre broadband in East Lothian to more than 31,000 by the end of spring next year. Around 10,000 are already able to get the service.
Brendan Dick, BT Scotland director, said: “These additional fibre broadband connections mark another step forward. High-speed digital connectivity is vital to East Lothian’s long-term success.
“BT’s investment in fibre broadband allows communities to create new opportunities, growth and future potential. Anything you can think of doing online, you can do better with fibre broadband. It is a vital part of households and businesses making the most of the amazing opportunities increasingly offered by the internet.”
Councillor John McMillan (pictured), East Lothian Council’s economic development and tourism spokesman, said: “It’s great to hear that the super-fast broadband footprint planned for Cockenzie, Prestonpans and Tranent is expanding.
“It’s essential to be well-connected if our businesses are to compete effectively and we are to protect and create jobs.”
