Acting legend visits Tranent school
Actor Sir Ian McKellen with pupils at Ross High School, Tranent.
Hollywood legend Sir Ian McKellen stopped off in Tranent last week to support local teenagers in the battle against bullying and discrimination.
Fresh from the premiere of his latest blockbuster, The Hobbit, Sir Ian was welcomed to Ross High School to celebrate the launch of the school’s equalities policy.
The visit was linked with his work as patron of the gay and lesbian charity Stonewall and its Education for All campaign against homophobic bullying.
The Gandalf and Magneto actor was able to tap into the ethos at Ross High when he urged both staff and pupils to “embrace difference, celebrate diversity and to challenge all forms of discrimination.”
