A record of the county’s history now in Haddington
SONY DSC
A historic moment was enjoyed as archives were returned to East Lothian from the National Records of Scotland in Edinburgh.
Nine cages of records were unpacked including minutes of the Lunacy Board from 1896, various school log books from the late 1800s to the 1950s, county valuation rolls, minutes of the poorhouse from 1884 and lieutenancy and militia records dating back to 1797.
Over the next few months, further batches are to be returned to the county including the Haddington charter and poor relief registers which include up to 20,000 names.
