Police were called to the Elphinstone Arms on Wednesday morning last week following reports of a fire at the main entrance.

The incident is being treated as attempted fire-raising and police enquiries are continuing.

On Friday, East Lothian Licensing Board agreed to issue a closure order on the pub until August 30.

Convener Jim Goodfellow said this was necessary in the interests of public safety.

He said: “Within that period the board would expect the police to request a review of the premises licence.”
