Healthy eating project wins MP’s approval
The local impact of youth unemployment and welfare reforms were outlined to East Lothian MP Fiona O’Donnell during her recent visit to the Roots and Fruits healthy eating project.
Ms O’Donnell took the opportunity to discuss poverty levels with Pamela McKinlay, manager of the initiative, which promotes healthier eating by providing access to good quality fruit and vegetables at an affordable price.
Speaking after her visit Ms O’Donnell said: “Roots and Fruits is an excellent local project that is helping to tackle food, health and poverty issues across the county.
“At a time when families in East Lothian are feeling the squeeze on their household budgets and with food prices rocketing, projects such as Roots and Fruits are more vital than ever in providing access to fresh, affordable and nutritious food.
“The staff and volunteers are an inspirational group of people who are making a real difference in communities across East Lothian.”
