Cash help for food co-op bid

Two East Lothian groups have secured funding to support their work in promoting healthier eating.

Changes Community Health Project, based in Market Street, Musselburgh, has been awarded £1,892 to run a healthy eating and exercise course, while Prestonpans-based Roots and Fruits will receive at total of £1,370 — the bulk of which will be used to pilot a community food co-op in Whitecraig.

Both projects have been allocated money from the Community Food and Health (Scotland) small grant scheme, which is funded by the Scottish Government.

The money awarded to Roots and Fruits also included £450 from the “January Promotion” which is supported by the Scottish Government and runs alongside the Scottish Grocers Federation healthyliving programme, with the aim of increasing sales of fruit and vegetables.
