East Lothian has received a massive sporting and economic boost with news that it has been chosen to host next year’s Scottish Open.
Gullane Golf Club has been selected to stage the 2015 tournament and the decision has been hailed as the latest endorsement of the county’s growing reputation as a prime golfing destination and Scotland’s Golf Coast.
The news has delighted local golfers, businesses and councillors and the choice of Gullane has also won the backing of First Minister Alex Salmond.
The prestigious four-day event, which takes place the week before the Open Championship, is expected to pump millions into the local economy thanks to the thousands of golf fans expected to attend.
