A former soldier from Tranent, who lost both legs in Afghanistan, is training hard for a gruelling cross-country obstacle challenge.

Stevie Richardson (26) is preparing to undertake the Spartan Race around the grounds of Winton House, Pencaitland, on September 21.

He will be joined by ex-army colleagues James Simpson (28), a double leg amputee, and Jake Bartlett (23), who lost one leg and badly damaged another during service in Afghanistan.

Their commitment to the muddy test has been described as “inspirational” by the race organiser.
