An elderly woman was robbed of £500 yesterday (Tuesday) within a Tranent sheltered housing complex.
The 76-year-old resident awoke at around 3.15am and disturbed an intruder who had broken into the property in Muirpark Gardens.
The suspect is described as white, around 20 years old, 5ft 8in, of normal build and unshaven.
He was wearing a grey, hooded top - the hood being up at the time of the incident - and he spoke with a local accent.
Police are appealing for information relating to the incident.
PC Jordan Sharp, of the community investigation unit at Musselburgh, said: “The elderly woman was not hurt, but this, of course, was a very distressing episode for her and we are keen to identify the person responsible as soon as possible.
“Anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in or around Muirpark Gardens in the early hours of Tuesday morning should contact Police Scotland on 101 or, alternatively, phone the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
