Dawn Crawford from Gullane and Tracy Grosse of Macmerry scooped joint first prize in the 2013 Shop Local competition run by East Lothian Council, writes Chief Reporter Avril Campbell.

The competition, which is now in its seventh year, ran over the Christmas period and anyone spending £20 or more at participating local retailers was given an entry card to win a share of £1,500 worth of Shop Local vouchers.

Dawn and Fiona each received £150 worth of vouchers to spend in any of the shops taking part. Dawn had spent more than £20 in Mason’s shoe shop in North Berwick, while Tracy had been shopping at Wee Mason’s, a children’s shoe shop run by the same business in Haddington. There were another 24 winners of a £50 Shop Local voucher.

This is just one of the many initiatives which take place throughout the year in a bid to encourage people to shop and eat in East Lothian as the council pursues its drive to boost the local economy and tourism.

The East Lothian News and Musselburgh News are supporting local businesses through their Shop Local, Eat Local and Play Local promotion this year.
