Country Corner

In this chemical dependant era, some readers may not recognise these caterpillars.

They are the larvae of the Large White butterfly. Large Whites and Small Whites are called cabbage whites by gardeners.

These caterpillars were a very common sight in gardens where cabbages grew.

Pesticide sprays ensure few people are now familiar with either the caterpillars or the perforated cabbages they produce.

Read George Hogg’s Country Corner column every week.
