The council has apologised to charity workers in North Berwick after posters advertising a fund-raising coffee morning were taken down by mistake.

Local representatives of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution were bemused when all the posters telling members of the public about the event in the Hope Rooms on Saturday were nowhere to be seen early last week.

They had been removed from trees lining Dirleton Road and lampposts — but posters highlighting a coffee morning at Leuchie, the holiday home for muliple sclerosis suffers, were still on show.

Further enquiries revealed that the RNLI posters had been taken down by East Lothian Council.
