A performance by internationally renowned violinist Tasmin Little will open this year's 3 Harbours Arts Festival, against the backdrop of Cockenzie Power Station's twin chimneys.
A lucky audience, sporting hard hats and protective clothing, was given a sneak preview recently as Tasmin played at the venue, while being filmed for the South Bank Show.
Now in its third year, the 3 Harbours Festival takes place between 31 May a
nd 8 June in Prestonpans, Cockenzie and Port Seton.
Last year it covered 138 venues, involved 300 artists, including Calum Colvin, Richard Demarco, Sandy Moffat, a host of musicians, actors and writers and attracted thousands of visits from the community and beyond.
Master classTasmin Little has performed throughout the world with international orchestras, from the Royal Philharmonic to the Deusches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin.
Recent seasons have included her 14th appearance at the BBC Proms and a tour with the Berlin Philharmonic .
On Friday, May 30 she will launch the 3 Harbours Festival by playing at the power station and turning on the lights which will illuminate its chimneys for the duration of the festival.
She will also perform on May 31, conducting a master class session in a Native American tipi with young East Lothian musicians
UnusualTasmin's recent Naked Violin project has seen her performing in a range of unusual venues as part of her campaign to bring classical music to a wider audience.
Andrew Crummy, one of the festival organisers, said: "Tasmin's Naked Violin project fits perfectly with our theme this year which is 'Art in Unusual Places'.
"We have an art trail, for example, where art is displayed in people's front rooms, windows and shops throughout the three communities.
"This year is the 40th anniversary of Cockenzie Power Station, so it is particularly fitting that it is playing such a big role in our festival."
