Sherlock Holmes comes to town

Roger Llewelyn as Sherlock Holmes

Roger Llewelyn as Sherlock Holmes

After his international success in Sherlock Holmes…The Last Act, Roger Llewelyn stars in Sherlock Holmes… the Death and Life, a wryly humorous tale featuring Conan Doyle’s famous detective, which will be at the Brunton Theatre, Musselburgh, this February.

In this tale of murder, mystery and the occult, The World’s Greatest Detective refuses to leave the stage!

Arthur Conan Doyle tires of his intolerably arrogant Sherlock Holmes, and creates arch villain Professor Moriarty to dispose of him. But the author’s dangerous strategy, combined with his passion for raising the spirits of the dead, has rather more bizarre and dramatic consequences than he bargains for!

This fantasy, based on a fiction, is a light hearted illustration of the battle between an author’s intentions, and the rebellious ambitions of his literary creations.

This spine tingling new play is written by David Stuart Davies, a renowned author and a specialist in adaptations of the Conan Doyle canon.

The production, which has been created and directed by Gareth Armstrong and has a thrilling original score from RSC composer Simon Slater, offers a memorable, moving and intensely theatrical experience.

It follows on from the immensely successful Sherlock Holmes… The Last Act, which won 5-stars at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 1999 and was selected as one of the Top Ten Fringe Plays of the Year.

Roger Llewelyn, winner of The Shakespeare Prize at RADA, has had a long career in classical theatre, television (including Kavanagh QC, Lorna Doone, Silent Witness and Inspector Morse), the West End, and repeat seasons at the RSC, before 10 years of touring with his hugely acclaimed solo show Sherlock Holmes… The Last Act, which has played over 550 performances in 450 venues across the world.

Sherlock Holmes… the Death and Life will be at Brunton Theatre on Saturday February 4. Tickets are £11.25 (£9.25), £6 under 18s and are available now from Brunton Theatre Box Office on 0131 665 2240 or online at www.bruntontheatre.co.uk
