Wind turbine plan hinges on site visit
Councillors are to visit a farm at North Berwick to see if a proposed wind turbine of more than 35 metres high would have a harmful impact on the area.
John Trainer’s planning application for the structure at Brownrigg Farm, Congalton, which attracted 25 objections, was refused by planning officials under the delegated scheme.
But he requested it go to a meeting of the Local Review Body which met in the Council Chambers, Town House, Haddington.
All the members — Councillors Donald Grant, Barry Turner, the planning convener, Roger Knox and Tom Trotter — adjourned the debate for a site visit.
Mr Trainer is hoping they will overturn the previous decision to refuse the application for the single 37.5 metre high wind turbine on agricultural land 40 metres to the west of the buildings at the farm.
The turbine would be positioned on an area of upwardly sloping land some 180 metres to the north of the C137 public road. Brownrigg farmhouse, which is situated 220 metres to the east of the turbine location, was listed as being of special architectural or historic interest. Brownrigg Fort — a Scheduled Ancient Monument — is situated 330 metres to the north east.
The woodland area some 50 metres to the north is the Balgone Area of Great Landscape Value and North Berwick Law.

Monday, February 6, 2012 at 06:57 PMWe need to get the Government onside, as well as local councils and others, if we are going to stop these wind turbines being built. Are you disillusioned by rising electricity prices, over dependence on the "green" dream [especially uneconomical and inefficient wind farms] and the destruction of our countryside then please register your objection to the Government by GOOGLING "PETITION 22958" and following the link. Please pass this message on to Councillors, members of your community and anyone else you know to persuade them to sign up too. If you are really concerned about wind turbines please write a letter promoting this petition to the Editors of your local newspapers.
