Villagers condemn cut in library hours at Ormiston

Concerns have been voiced about East Lothian Council’s decision to reduce the opening hours of Ormiston Library.

New hours introduced from the beginning of last month saw Ormiston and East Linton lose out, while hours were extended in other libraries, such as Dunbar, Gullane, North Berwick and Musselburgh.

The move resulted in a reduction of nine hours for Ormiston Library, from 30 to 21.

Ormiston Community Council claims the “hastily taken decision” will curtail the availability of library services to much of the community, while making the library completely inaccessible to some.

Chairman James Blane said the proposal was pushed through in the middle of the holiday period, without any consultation with the community council.
