Priority site for toilets
Community councillors want North Berwick to be flushed with pride with more public toilets provided in the town.
But Councillor David Berry told them that they would have to prioritise the location when the issue was debated at the group’s monthly meeting in the fire station last week.
The community council was keen to see both a shelter at Castle Hill transformed into toilets and also a facility built at the rail station.
Councillor Berry said they would have to choose one site, adding: I am happy to campaign for a toilet — what’s your priority?”
He explained that the Castle Hill project, which attracted objections from nearby residents, already had planning permission. This proposal, he added, could now be pursued after the possibility of using ground floor facilities at the Glen Golf Club had fallen through.
The community council agreed to support the Castle Hill site and explore the idea of a public toilet at the rail station in the future.
The group had also mooted the idea of combining the West Links putting green hut and toilets.
