Optician keeps eye on safety
Children from Stoneyhill, Campie and Burgh schools get reflective vests from Specsavers
SCHOOL pupils across Musselburgh will be safer on their walk to school thanks to a local optician.
Specsavers Musselburgh has made a donation of hi-visibility vests to primary one pupils across three of the town’s schools.
In total 137 pupils from Burgh Primary, Stoneyhill Primary and Campie Primary have each received a fluorescent vest.
Diana Kelly, store director of Specsavers Musselburgh, said: “Winter is well and truly here, and with such dark mornings and nights, we wanted to play our part in helping the area’s youngsters keep themselves safe.
“Some of our staff members are parents themselves and we were all agreed that local schools might welcome a donation of hi-visibility vests for the walk to school, as well as walking bus schemes or even class outings. The children were thrilled with their new jackets.”
The giveaway comes hot on the heels of Road Safety Week during which Specsavers stores across Scotland offered free in-store number plate vision checks, which gives drivers an indication of whether or not their vision is still fit for the road.
Specsavers has for many years played a major part in trying to spread the road safety message with its Drive Safe trailer which aims to remind drivers to keep themselves and others safe by ensuring they have regular eye checks.
