United in bid to work for better rail services
The cross party fight for local train services at Dunbar and a new rail station at East Linton is continuing.
A group of politicians including Councillor Paul McLennan, SNP Leader of East Lothian Council, East Lothian’s Labour MSP Iain Gray, MSPs Jim Hume, John Lamont and Paul Wheelhouse, councillors and staff from East Lothian and Scottish Borders Councils, SESTran, the South East Scotland Transport Partnership, and the Rail Action Group East of Scotland (RAGES) have joined forces to press the Scottish Government for action.
They met at John Muir House in Haddington for recent talks during which it was agreed that the MSPs present would lodge a motion in the Scottish Parliament for discussion about the rail study.
Keith Brown, Minister for Transport, is due to visit East Linton and Reston where it is also hoped the station will re-open. His tour of the area is likely to take place on February 28.
Councillor McLennan later said the group wanted local rail services from Dunbar to Edinburgh, stopping at stations en route such as Drem and Prestonpans where there could be a connection to North Berwick, as well as Queen Margaret University at Musselburgh and East Linton with the re-opening of the station.
