£2000 carrot for firms to take on apprentices
Angela Constance MSP
Businesses in East Lothian can now get up to £2,000 when they take on any young apprentice.
J&I Scaffolding Ltd, Looks Hairdressing and Tranent’s Wee Scones Nursery have already got involved with the Employer Recruitment Incentive which is delivered by Skills Development Scotland and supported by the Scottish Government.
Eligibility for ERI has been broadened, providing businesses with a cash injection when they employ any 16 to 19 year old as an apprentice or offer apprenticeship to anyone aged 20 or over who has been out of work for a short period.
Damien Yeates, Chief Executive of Skills Development Scotland, said: “As well as the recruitment incentive, the cost of an apprentice’s training is subsidised, making it a really smart way to grow a skilled workforce.”
Angela Constance, Minister for Youth Employment, added: “I want to see as many of our young people as possible develop the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to be a success in our job market and contribute towards our economy.”
