Hearings loom for Tesco and Sainsbury’s store plans

Decision day is approaching for two major supermarket plans at Haddington.

Sainsbury’s is hoping to get the go-ahead in principle for a retail store and petrol filling station at Gateside West, while Tesco wants to erect a store and petrol filling station at Gateside East.

The two applications will be the subject of pre-determination hearings at a meeting of East Lothian Council’s planning committee in the Council Chambers, Town House, Haddington, on Tuesday at 10am, before a decision is made by the full council on February 28.

Also under scrutiny will be a plan by Tesco Stores and Taylor Wimpey for a mixed use of new retail, commercial and residential development with car parking on the site of the current Tesco store, which would be demolished, at Newton Port in Haddington.
