Community’s tribute to Pencaitland stalwart

A LIFETIME contribution to village life was acknowledged last week as Janet Bassett retired from Pencaitland Community Council.

In a tribute to the long-serving chairman, fellow community councillor Tom Steele said: “I can’t think of anyone who has cared and given more to make the village something special. She leaves a wonderful legacy.”

Presentations were made to Janet and to secretary Julie Murphy, who also stood down, when the community council met last week in the Trevelyan Hall.
