Campbell Gillies : Obituary

The East Lothian News is inviting its readers to pay tribute to Campbell Gillies, the promising young jockey, who died following an accident on holiday in Corfu this week. Haddington-born Campbell was due to turn 22 the day after the tragedy. His family, mother Lesley, sister Rita and brother Finlay, have spoken of their devastation at his death. The jockey, who attended Knox Academy, had ridden four winners so far this season and in March secured the biggest win of his career, riding Brindisi Breeze in the Grade 1 Albert Barlett Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. Campbell primarily rode for the Scottish trainer Lucinda Russell. Tributes have been paid by First Minister Alex Salmond, Champion jockey AP McCoy, the Professional Jockeys Association and many others connected with the world of horse racing.
